Akron Children’s Hospital to Use TeleAtrics Connect™ Telemedicine Solution
Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron, Ohio will use the TeleAtrics Connect telemedicine platform to provide medical services in the Akron Public Schools. Students with common childhood illness symptoms will be evaluated and treated via secure videoconferencing and medical data transfer between the school health office and the Akron Children’s Hospital using the TeleAtrics Connect system.
John McBride, M.D. of the Akron Children’s Hospital said, “We are anxious to duplicate the success and availability of health care using the latest innovations in telemedicine that other areas using TeleAtrics systems have been able to demonstrate. In addition to the initial Akron Public School site, that will be connected to the Akron Children’s Hospital, we are preparing to expand this service in the future to three day-programs for children with special needs. The TeleAtrics telemedicine solution provides an accessible, convenient and comprehensive means for our pediatric staff, located at the Hospital and in community based practices, to provide a high level of heath care to the children and families within these facilities.”
TeleAtrics Connect, now used for both medical and dental healthcare, currently includes 41 sites in operation on a daily basis, with over 4000 patient users and 50 healthcare providers interconnecting schools, childcare centers, camps, group homes, pediatric and family medical practices, plus several hospitals. Thousands of “virtual office visits” have been accomplished using the facilities of the TeleAtrics Connect telemedicine platform.
